Traveling Construction Crew Equipment Operator
Our immediate need is for someone who is capable of safely and efficiently running a variety of small to mid-size machines like skid steers, mini-excavators, backhoes, and forklifts. But you need to understand that this is only a portion of the whole job. Some days, you will be running a backhoe; and some days you will be running conduit. You will help us build forms, tie rebar, and finish concrete. You will load dump trucks, pull wire, and then sweep up the job site at the end of the project. Sometimes, you will do all of these things in the course of a single day. And some days, when we are between projects in the field, you will be in the office planning and preparing for the next one – or perhaps helping with some equipment maintenance tasks. You will be jumping in and making things happen . . . doing whatever it takes to get the job done.
We call this position the Equipment Operator, so as to capture the highest level of accountability in the title. But it is a versatile role, involving the wearing of many hats. This is technical multiple-discipline construction position. It will take someone who is clever, caring, and ambitious to be successful.
And we are going to support you in this endeavor. We will take the time to train you in how we do things here at Synergetic, but you will need to be a quick learner – because part of your job will be to help us all keep working on doing everything better. Also, a caring and transparent leader will regularly work closely with you to help set your goals, track your progress, maintain accountability, and to continuously improve in the areas of organization, work habits, work/life balance, and professional growth. The point is that we will all continue to learn and grow together.
You must be someone who loves to travel a lot. If you cringe at the idea of life on the road (suitcases, hotels, restaurant food), you probably won’t like this job for very long. Sometimes our projects take a few days; sometimes they take several weeks; and we go prepared to stay until they are complete. Most of our backlog for the foreseeable future is spread across the eastern half of the United States. You and your teammates will mobilize to our sites by driving company trucks across several states, but there will also be occasional airline travel.
This is not a normal 40-hour-per-week job. While most of our work can be scheduled for regular the day-time work week, it is a job that can have an inconsistent schedule. We hold maintenance contracts that require us to periodically perform our work at night. Sometimes our projects require long weekend shut-down hours. And every once in a while, we find ourselves working late in the rain in order to meet a deadline or to get poised for the next day’s success. As with many fields in the construction industry, the nature of Synergetic’s workload involves annual cycles of busy-ness and breaks in the action. We recognize the importance of healthy relationships and habits and that getting home to family, friends, and personal recreation activities are among the most important parts of life.
